iDEAL is a Netherlands-based payment method that allows supporters in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg to make donations using their online banking credentials. It is the most popular online payment method in the Netherlands, with a share of online transactions close to 55%. iDEAL redirects supporters to their online banking service to authenticate their payment using two-factor authentication, with immediate notification about the success or failure of a payment.

Recurring Giving with SEPA
For supporters to create recurring plans when donating with iDEAL, enable SEPA as a payment method. iDEAL is a one-time payment method where supporters authenticate each donation. To use iDEAL for a recurring plan, Givetly charges 0.01 EUR through iDEAL to collect bank details, and refunds the charge after authentication. The supporter’s IBAN is stored in a SEPA Direct Debit method, processing subsequent installments via SEPA Direct Debit.
⚠️ iDEAL is not compatible with daily or weekly recurring frequencies. It will not be available under these frequencies in the Checkout form or Donor Portal.

Enable iDEAL
Add iDEAL and other payment methods without changes to your installation code via the Givetly Dashboard.
Step 1: Enable iDEAL in Stripe
- Go to your Stripe dashboard.
- Click the gear icon in the top-right and select Settings.
- Under Payments, select Payment Methods.
- Locate iDEAL and click Turn on.
Step 2: Enable iDEAL in Givetly
- Go to the Givetly Dashboard.
- Click your name in the top right, then select Settings.
- Click Payment Methods in the left-hand menu.
- Click on iDEAL and select Enable iDEAL.
Refunds
Donations made using iDEAL can be refunded up to 180 days after the original donation date.
