Processing Fees
The fees for SEPA donations are 0.8% + 0.30 USD, capped at 6 USD.
Step-by-Step Setup
Step 1: Enable SEPA in Stripe
To process SEPA payments, you first need to activate it in your Stripe account.
- Log into your Stripe dashboard.
- Click the gear icon in the top-right corner and select Settings.
- Under Payments, choose Payment methods.
- Find SEPA Direct Debit and select Turn on.
Step 2: Disable Stripe’s SEPA Emails
Avoid duplicate email notifications by disabling Stripe’s SEPA emails:
- Access your Stripe dashboard.
- Click the gear icon for Settings.
- Navigate to Business settings and click Emails under Your business.
- Toggle off Send SEPA debit initiation emails.
Step 3: Set Your Statement Descriptor in Givetly
Use a recognizable statement descriptor for donor transparency:
- Go to Givetly Dashboard.
- Click your name and choose Settings.
- Select Account from the menu.
- Configure your Statement Descriptor if not set and click Save changes.
Step 4: Enable SEPA in Givetly
Ensure your Givetly account is linked to a Stripe account in supported locations like Austria, Japan, etc. Then:
- Access Givetly Dashboard.
- Go to Settings and Payment methods.
- Enable SEPA Direct Debit.
- Follow the setup steps confirming the Stripe and descriptor settings, and click Enable SEPA.
Step 5: How Supporters Pay with SEPA
During the checkout, for donations over 2 EUR, donors will see a Direct Debit option to enter their IBAN.
SEPA in the Virtual Terminal
In the Virtual Terminal, select SEPA Direct Debit as a payment method for EUR donations. Enter IBAN, name, and email to process.
Step 6: Customize Confirmation and Verification Emails
SEPA donors receive automated emails, customizable via Givetly Dashboard settings under Emails. Ensure necessary templates like “Bank Mandate” are configured to meet regulatory standards.
Receipt Delivery Timeframes
Receipts are sent once donations are successful:
- New Donations/First Installments: Could take up to 8 business days.
- Subsequent Recurring Installments: Might take up to 5 business days.
