Implementation Steps

Prerequisites

Before starting, ensure that you’ve set up Google Tag Manager for sending events from givetly.

  • Gain administrative access to your organization’s Google Tag Manager and Meta Business Suite accounts.
  • Consult our setup guides for Checkout modal.

Step 1: Get Your Meta Pixel ID

  1. Log in to Meta Business Suite.
  2. Navigate to Events Manager.
  3. Select Data Sources.
  4. Find your Pixel ID and copy it for later use.

Step 2: Add Your Pixel ID to Meta Pixel Configuration Tags in Google Tag Manager

  1. Sign in to Google Tag Manager.
  2. Choose the container for your website.
  3. Go to Tags.
  4. Edit the Checkout Open – Pixel Initiate Checkout tag to enter your Pixel ID.
  5. Save changes.
  6. Repeat the process for Donation Complete – Pixel Donate, Purchase, and Subscribe tags.

Step 3: Review Tags, Parameters, and Triggers

Tags

  • Checkout Open – Pixel Initiate Checkout: Tracks the opening of the Checkout modal to understand supporter interactions.
  • Donation Complete – Pixel Donate: Tracks completed donations for one-time and recurring donations.
  • Donation Complete – Pixel Purchase/Subscribe: Tracks and helps manage recurring donations.

Parameters

tags send several parameters to Meta Pixel to enhance analytics, such as content_ids, content_name, and currency. Refer to our parameters guide for more details.

Triggers

Each tag uses pre-configured triggers in Google Tag Manager. No additional configuration is needed. The table below outlines the relationship between events sent to GTM, triggers, and fired tags.

Step 4: Publish Your Configuration

  1. Click Submit in the Tag Manager dashboard.
  2. Enter a version name, e.g., “Meta Pixel configuration.”
  3. Optionally, add a description of the changes.
  4. Click Publish to deploy the changes.

Part 5: Test Your Configuration

  • Use the Overview in Meta Business Suite’s Event Manager after setting up your events.
  • Test by making a donation in givetly’s test mode.
  • Ensure your tags appear in the Event Manager’s Overview; otherwise, verify your setup or review this guide.

Use Case Examples

  • Re-engage Visitors: Create an audience based on the Initiate Checkout event for those who’ve left the Checkout modal.
  • Upsell One-time Donors: Target those based on Purchase events and exclude Subscribe events.
